The picture shows a poor dog lying on the ground. There are words like "stupid", "dumb dog" and "shut up" placed around him in the picture.
In my opinion, there must have been a cruel person to 'shoot' words like that at the dog, thinking that the dog will not understand the words. The author made this picture to make the audience feel so sorry for the dog who is helpless and apparently surrendered to his fate to be criticised for something he could have done.
He could have been looked down on or picked on by other people and has no self confidence to fight back. How would you feel if people consistently picked on you and called you names every day? I'm sure that you will feel miserable and helpless. The background colours are black and red to cause a feeling of pity and cruelty towards the dog.
I think that the bullying will create physical and emotional trauma on the dog. The camera angle is placed such that the dog is not seen and to create suspense to how the dog's facial expression is like. The picture tells us that all animals have feelings and we should not disregard how they feel even though if we do not know if they Do or DO not understand what we are saying to them..

"Don't treat others the way you don't want to be treated."

The participants are the 2 monkeys and the recipent is the man. The 2 monkeys are eating the man's brain, who looked sad and helpless. The author wants to create more feelings by choosing a setting that looks like a deserted place. He also wants the viewers to feel pitiful for the man. This message behind the text is to tell us that if we don't want to be treated like that, then we should not do those things to those monkeys by eating their brains and letting them die painfully.

Jazzline,Amira,Adeline,Faizal.-message behind this text.

From the picture ,it is clearly shown that that the monkeys are having a good time enjoying the person's brain and they were digging the brain with a spoon. In the text ,the author had probably used a abandoned place to be the setting.I think it is to influence the reader's feeling to show that we should respect one an other even between human and animal. Maybe the art of eating monkeys brain originated in the olden times. Thus, they set the image to a barren and poor setting to make it seems that it took place in the old times and to show the history of the cuisine. The camera angle is set to meet the eye level is to make a effect to show the man's helpless and hopeless facial expression and to show the monkey's action of eating the brain alive. The angle is also to make the person seeing the picture feels sympathetic and sorry towards the cruelty and torture of eating somebody's else organs alive.

'when i went back ,they were folded across the fence ...like they were expectinn'me''Across''And something else'jem voice was flat.'Show you when we get home. They havebeen sewed up.Not like a lady sewed'em,like somethin'i'd try to do.All crooked. It's almost like somebody knew you were comin'back for'em'.(taken from chapter 7,page 64 to 65)
This quotation tell us that jem's breeches was sewed as if that person knew he would be coming back for it.And the point was it was sewed up not by a woman but a man, as we could tell from the quotation that it was all crooked.Though the quotation tell us that jem was scared but it also tell us that person mean no harm to him.
'Thank who?' I asked.
'Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn't know it when he put the blanket around you.'
My stomach turned to water and I nearly threw up when Jem held out the blanket and crept toward me. 'He sneaked out of the house-turn 'round-sneaked up, and' went like this!"
(taken from chapte 8,page 80)
This quotation tell us that scout was still scared of boo radley and cannot believed that he was just behined her. However this quotation also tell us that boo radley was trying to be nice to them and he did not mean any harm to them.

Summariser - Adeline Ng...(o8)

Chapter 7
A few days later, after school has begun for the year, Jem tells Scout that he found the pants mysteriously mended and hung neatly over the fence. When they come home from school that day, they find another present hidden in the knothole: a ball of gray twine.
They leave it there for a few days, but no one takes it, so they claim it for their own. Unsurprisingly, Scout is as unhappy in second grade as she was in first, but Jem promises her that school gets better the farther along one goes. Late that fall, another present appears in the knothole—two figures carved in soap to resemble Scout and Jem.
The figures are followed in turn by chewing gum, a spelling bee medal, and an old pocket watch. The next day, Jem and Scout find that the knothole has been filled with cement. When Jem asks Mr. Radley about the knothole the following day, Mr. Radley replies that he plugged the knothole because the tree is dying.
Chapter 8
For the first time in years, Maycomb endures a real winter. There is even light snowfall, an event rare enough for school to be closed. Jem and Scout haul as much snow as they could from Miss Maudie’s yard to their own.
Since there is not enough snow to make a real snowman, they build a small figure out of dirt and cover it with snow. They make it look like Mr. Avery, an unpleasant man who lives down the street. The figure’s likeness to Mr. Avery is so strong that Atticus demands that they disguise it. Jem places Miss Maudie’s sunhat on its head and sticks her hedge clippers in its hands, much to her chagrin.
That night, Atticus wakes Scout and helps her put on her bathrobe and coat and goes outside with her and Jem. Miss Maudie’s house is on fire. The neighbors help her save her furniture, and the fire truck arrives in time to stop the fire from spreading to other houses, but Miss Maudie’s house burns to the ground. In the confusion, someone drapes a blanket over Scout.
When Atticus later asks her about it, she has no idea who put it over her. Jem realizes that Boo Radley put it on her, and he reveals the whole story of the knothole, the presents, and the mended pants to Atticus. Atticus tells them to keep it to themselves, and Scout, realizing that Boo was just behind her, nearly throws up.
Despite having lost her house, Miss Maudie is cheerful the next day. She tells the children how much she hated her old home and that she is already planning to build a smaller house and plant a larger garden. She says that she wishes she had been there when Boo put the blanket on Scout to catch him in the act.

There is surely no nation in the world that holds "racism" in greater horror than does the United States. Compared to other racism, it is more terrify than any others happening in different countries. The people there use different way to destroy others and their properties such as robbery, arson and raping. Even police force cannot stop racisms; this is how racism serious is.
http://www.planetpapers.com/Assets/3874.php

American is the main target for racism in the 1930s. The Americans came out with different ways to counter this problem as well as to support the fellow country-mate.

Many Americans gathered at held many protests. This was the most effective way for that period. White Americans still have a better life that time but many rights of African Americans were completely ignored.

http://www.bookrags.com/essay-2005/2/2/154442/6082

Racism was still serious despite of decline of such organizations like Ku Klux Klan. The black Americans had been given chances to do things which are often lacked in the past. Such federal programs as The Federal Music Project, Federal Theatre Project, and Federal Writers project enabled the black Americans to let their emotions out. The Americans are also competing for WPA (Works Project Administration) in the south. The black Americans are often paid lesser than usual or they might even be refused to do the job.

It is a common bird of hedgerows and suburbs, and has been slowly expanding its range northward.Besides its own rapturous song, the mockingbird's repertoire has been known to include over 40 different sounds including the barking of a dog. Mockingbirds can be fiercely territorial during the mating season as they defend their nests and territories. Watching their behavior can be quite thrilling. The Mockingbird is a very important visitor to your backyard. Not only is it's song enchanting, but they will help to eat many of your nuisance garden insects! Gardens are among its favorite dwelling places especially if winter berries are available.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mockingbird.

Research on Harper Lee by Adeline Ng (08)

Born: 28-Apr-1926
Birthplace: Monroeville, AL
Gender: Female
Religion: Methodist
Race or Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Novelist
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: To Kill A Mockingbird

Early life
Harper Lee, known as Nelle, was born in the Alabama town of Monroeville on April 28, 1926, the youngest of four children of Amasa Coleman Lee and Frances Cunningham Finch Lee. Her father, a former newspaper editor and proprietor, was a lawyer who served on the state legislature from 1926 to 1938.
As a child, Lee was a tomboy and a precocious reader, and enjoyed the friendship of her schoolmate and neighbor, the young Truman Capote

After graduating from high school in Monroeville, Lee enrolled at the all-female Huntingdon College in Montgomery (1944-45), and then pursued a law degree at the University of Alabama (1945-50), pledging the Chi Omega sorority. While there, she wrote for several student publications and spent a year as editor of the campus humor magazine, Ramma-Jamma. Though she did not complete the law degree, she studied for a summer in Oxford, England, before moving to New York in 1950, where she worked as a reservation clerk with Eastern Air Lines and BOAC.

Lee continued as a reservation clerk until the late 50s, when she devoted herself to writing. She lived a frugal life, traveling between her cold-water-only apartment in New York to her family home in Alabama to care for her father.

NOVEL : TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
What resulted was To Kill A Mockingbird, published in 1960 and now widely acclaimed as one of the best American novels.

It spans three years in the childhood of Jean Louise "Scout" Finch, a young Alabama girl, and her older brother Jem, while their widowed father, small-time attorney Atticus Finch, defends a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Deftly sewing these threads into a story larger than its small-town characters and setting, the book spent eighty weeks on the best-seller list, sold 30,000,000 copies, and has been translated into more than forty languages.

It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961, and was adapted into a film in 1962, starring Gregory Peck.

SUMMARY OF HER PAST SCHOOLS AND FAMILY
In her last interview, in 1964, Lee said she had "never expected any sort of success with Mockingbird", and that she was having a difficult time writing her next novel.

She wrote a few magazine essays after Mockingbird was published, but another novel has never yet appeared under her byline. Now in her 80s, Lee lives with her sister Louise, eschews all publicity, declines all interview requests, and rarely makes public appearances.

Father: Amasa Coleman Lee (lawyer, b. 19-Jul-1880, d. 1962)

Great Depression(great depression_amira_(10)http://www.slashdoc.com/documents/70812

To kill a mockingbird written by Harper Lee shows how the great depression in the early 1928 affected the education in society people in the Southerners. The drastic change started between the year 1930 and 1931. That was when the condition was the worst. Many students did not have the right clothing, supplies, and textbooks . The increase in cost were unbearable ,this had made the parents with no choice but to scrimp and save.
Due to lack of nutrients, schoolworks and the students progress started to drop. Students also did not pay their school fees and eventually the school had to close down. Not only that some poor families had to stop their children from going to school so that they can help them work so they can support the families financially. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird Scout describes the Ewell family, who only attends school the first day of each year . This is because of their lack in financial needs.
Teachers were also affected badly. Many teachers did not get their pays and as time goes by debts owned by the teachers worsen. The debts were over 20 million. Not only were sometimes they did not get their salary but their salary also were cut down.In the end many quit their job. Qualified male teachers during the Great Depression were very difficult to find and when they were hired their habits were very bad. For example they were frequently drunk. And also because teachers were not given their salary the qualified mans decided to doother jobs that give a better pay.People in Southern had a very hard life during that time .Due to many of this problems, quite a number of programs were organise in order to resolve the problems. however only some were successful.

Amira's reflection

The trip to Fort Siloso was very fun ,even though is was quite tiring. At first we were divided into teams [we were in team 2]. The tour guide was telling us about the different sites and my group members were busy doing things suchs as :taking photograph, taking down notes and figuring out on how to use the video. We had a problem right at the start of the trip as the video camera we took was not working properly. After working on it we were able to take videos but we were left behind as some videos we not taken. Not only that our group we often left behind not ones but two times or more.Twice the others had gone down the staircase but we were still upstairs. The other worst difficulties we face was when one of thr camera was jammed. It maybe due to taking to many pictures at one go.Luckily after asking for help we can continue taking pictures but with another camera. We also had not time doing the interviewas we did not bring the question.I think we were not prepared but we had learnt a good lesson and also we learnt something on teamwork .

Jazzline reflection:
6thmar

On 4 March 2008, the school planned a field trip for us to fort siloso.Over the past few weeks, before the trip we had been drawing out storyboard and doing research on fort siloso. We planned about the angles of pictures which we wanted to snap at fort siloso.we wrote down a few questions for interviews as well. However, on the actual day itself, we were unable to interview the guides as it is against their company privacy. We wrote down every thing said by the guide and took pictures during the war. We also quote a paragraph by Lee Kuan Yew referring to how he felt about the war. When we got back from fort siloso, we decided that the terrorist, mas selamat is a good example for us to talk about total defense.

[[Adeline reflection]]
The trip to Fort Siloso at Sentosa was fun and fruitful yet tiring.
We managed to take nice footages and photos of special places in fort siloso
to include in our video.
Upon arrival, we straight away proceeded to fort siloso.
But when the tour guide was talking, we wanted to take the footage of her talking
but at that point of time, we realised that we had some faulty difficulties with the video camera.
Everybody did not know what to do and we discussed on how to solve it. We finally came to a conclusion to give it to the project instructor to help us fix it.
The instructor took approximately 15 minutes to fix the camera and insert some new batteries.
This caused us to waste a lot of time and lost a lot of information. But Jeslyn was the person to take down the notes and what the tour guide said and thus, we had the information although we did not have the video footage.
At the end of everything when we were about to interview one of the instructors, Amira and Jeslyn suddenly came running to us to say that her camera was jammed due to overload of too many pictures and there was a possibility that all the camera photographs we took is gone. The whole group panicked and we quickly came together to create a solution. We gave the camera to the main instructor and he calmly told amira what to do.
Finally, the problem was solved.
The last problem occured when it was finally time to interview the instructor.
We did not bring the list of interview questions so Jeslyn came and asked the instructors while darius took the video. Jeslyn was able to ask the questions because she memorised the whole thing.

The trip to Fort Canning was fun and interesting. Even we felt tired, it was for our own good. When we reached there, the instructor borrowed us his cameras and video camera. Our camera was spoilt at first, but as we asked for help from another instructor, he managed to fix it. We wasted no time and took videos. Nearly at the end of the trip, our battery in the camera was running low. Somehow another team wanted our spare battery because their battery was running low too. Still we managed to keep the battery stable until the end. At that time, when the trip was done, it was time we hed our interview. Unfortnately, no one in our group wanted to interview the person. This wasted a lot of time and in the end, we did not managed to interview anyone. After a while, we managed to stop the argument. We got into the bus, feeling tired and sleepy. Even though we had problems, we learned to be patient and think before doing anything.

Trip on Fort Canning was both interesting and tiring. We have lots of difficulties there. When we reached there, the instructor borrowed us their video cameras. The camera was spoilt at first. They took about 15minutes to fix the camera. So, we wasted a lot of time and did not take much video. Other than that, we cannot find people to interview. This problem caused the team to argue. Although we still cannot find people, but managed to stop the argument and solve problems between our group members. The battery in the camera is another major problem for our group. We wanted to take some video at the end, but the battery was almost flat. So, we could not finish our task in time. This disappoints our group a lot. When we got onto the bus, we were all feeling tired. We learned to have more teamwork among us and listen to each other. After the trip, I feel that the teamwork between us improve a little.

It was a tuesday when we went to Fort Siloso for our project work . We gathered around the arrival stop for the briefing on what to do and collected our equipments for the shoot and recording . Several days before the trip , what we have been doing was a storyboard , a script , interview questions and research about Fort Siloso and more ...

On the day for the trip , after we had the briefing and took our equipments with us , we started to break up into our tour teams and the tour guide showed us around . We learnt about a few documentaries showed there and about the 6 , 8 , 11 inches guns and the history about all of them . We climbed a flight of stairs , while climbing , the tour guide asked us to count the number of steps we climbed . Guess what ? The number of stairs was 90 steps ! Wow , i wonder if the soldiers were tired when they were climbing the steps with all their equipments hanging around them .
There are some problems too , faced by me during the filming and others . One was , when i was about to record the scene and the surroundings , the video cam was spoilt ! That cause us to have a little argument . Then , i hurried and went to the closest instructer who handles the vid-cam to fix the problem . Luckily he found out what was wrong with the vid-cam and fixed it as soon as i needed it . Another problem is that one of my group members did not bring the interview questions for the interview , and that was the main thing we needed for the video . But luckily , someone remembered the questions and asked the interviewee to answer . That is all about my reflection .

Here are some of the research did on fort siloso .It tell us about how the history of what british did to defence singapore and how the japanese soliderbreak free from the plan of the british . I also manage to see what other classes have did for their research on fort siloso and i also manage to take it down.In 1967 when the British troops departed, the island was handed back to the Singapore government. Less than a decade later in 1975, under its new custodian Sentosa Development Corporation, the Fort was granted a new lease on life - its doors opening to the public for the first time.
For many veterans and their families, it serves as an important window to Singapore’s colonial past and a poignant reminder of the war.from this source we can infer that the british handed singapore to our goverment and also fort siloso was open to the public to know more about the history of it.

What will be done at Fort Siloso
29thfeb

After our discussion of ways to persuade our audience, we decide that we shall take pictures from fort siloso of cruelty scenes with blood shed where Singaporeans were being tortured. Then we will have an interview with our friends at fort siloso to make the film reliable. The torturous days after the war will also be described when we get in details. Interesting sound effects would also be added in the film to attract the audience’s attention. We will also include a paragraph about Singaporeans feeling during the war.(we will probably get the information from our grandparents whom had gone through the war)
We will use a picture of a horrible and scary scene filled with bloodshed to start the film, followed by the interview with our friends. Next we would flash slides which were taken at fort siloso where Singaporeans were being tortured by the Japanese and the torturous days after the war. At last, a paragraph of a Singaporean’s feeling during the war. (the paragraph is by someone’s grandparents whom had gone through the suffering days.)
Pictures of a lot of bloodshed and objects would be filmed in a close up shot to show our focus on it. We will shoot pictures of angles where people usually won’t see from. Making it this way we could attract the attention of audience and focusing on the objects ,our audience could better understand our purpose.
The narrator will start of with presenting our storyboard then introduce the rest of the happening in the film.
More strong words will be added in to show biased in our film. If possible, we would also try to add in powerful numbers to attract attention of audience.unnescary words would be remove accordingly.
We will use music which were suitable for the pictures taken and add in texts when we had taken all the photos.

Total Defence Day
1stmar

Total defence day was commemorated because of two things. Firstly is because S'pore as a young nation with a small population we cannot afford to maintain a regular armed force. Secondly the nature of wars have change we no longer fight in a battlefield. Instead potential aggressors can strike in less-obvious, non-military ways.

But if you think that Total Defence is a defence strategy or plan that is rolled out only during times of war, read on. Total Defence is more than that.

Total Defence provides the framework for a comprehensive and integrated response to deal with all kinds of threats and challenges. Whether it is a security threat such as global terrorism, or a national crisis like SARS, Total Defence brings together all relevant government agencies, private sector organisations and all Singaporeans in a total effort to deal with threats and challenges to Singapore's continued survival and success.

When Singaporeans take personal responsibility for and get involved in the defence of Singapore, they are playing their part to help keep Singapore safe and secure. A strong Total Defence will benefit not only the country but also each individual as whatever happens to Singapore will affect the lives of Singaporeans.

Total defence day consist of five aspect :military defence, civil defence, economic defence, social defence and psychological defence. When we take National Service seriously, volunteer in civil defence exercises, help to keep the economy going, build strong ties with one another regardless of race and religion, and stay committed to defend the country, we are doing something in every sector of our society to strengthen Singapore's resilience as a nation.
